Command Brass LLC was started in 2016. We have dedicated the last 8 years to providing Columbus, Ohio and beyond with a Brass Musical Instrument Shop which is in tune to the needs of Professionals, Amateurs, and Educators. 

Our client-focused maintenance, repair, modification, and customization brass instrument services are exceptional. We are actively preparing to produce specialized, custom world-class professional brass instruments. We have extensive access to the top music accessory suppliers which allows us to provide our clients with the service, tools, and knowledge they need to be successful musicians and music educators. We are Columbus, Ohio’s only native Professional Brass Specialist Shop and we look forward to helping our clients and friends continue to achieve greatness!

Julian S. Davis II
President & Design Engineer

    Julian S. Davis II is the President, Design Engineer, and a Brass Technician for Command Brass. 

For more than a decade Davis has trained extensively in the design, construction, and repair of brass instruments.

    Davis started as a brass technician repairing, customizing, and modifying brass instruments at a brass and woodwind repair and customization shop in Central Ohio. He further refined and expanded his brass knowledge during his 2-year tenure as the Repair Supervisor for The Ohio State University Marching and Athletic Bands at The Ohio State University – Columbus. In addition to his work as a brass technician, he has served as an Assistant Engineer and Metrology Specialist at Tool Technologies by Van Dyke, a Prototype, Design, Tool and Die company.

    Davis is a professional classical, jazz, commercial trumpet player across the mid-western region of the United States.

    He has studied and refined his skills in music performance, music education, composition and arranging under the tutelage of Byron Stripling, Kenyatta Beasley, Dr. Michael Hackett, Kristopher Keith, James “Jim” Masters, Dr. William “Ted” McDaniel, Jeffrey D. Shellhammer, Anthony Stanco, Shawn “Thunder” Wallace, Michael Smith, Dr. Ishbah Cox, and Dr. Jon R. Woods. Julian has completed course work at The Ohio State University – Columbus in Mechanical Engineering, Music Education, and Jazz Composition.

Whitney R. Davis
Director of Operations & Brass Technician

    Dr. Whitney R. Davis is the Director of Operations and a Brass Technician for Command Brass. She manages vendor accounts, logistics, and client service communications.

    Dr. Davis has several years of experience working within the Music Retail Industry. She consults with instrument manufacturers, outfits customers with the proper equipment through one-on-one consultations, and works with performers and vendors on a daily basis.

    Dr. Davis has enjoyed actively playing 2nd Trumpet / Assistant Principal with the New Albany Symphony Orchestra since 2017. She has also regularly performed with the Lima Symphony Orchestra, Mansfield Symphony Orchestra, Ashland Symphony Orchestra, Central Ohio Symphony Orchestra, Southeastern Ohio Symphony Orchestra, Nittany Valley Symphony Orchestra, and Opera Project Columbus. She is also an active player in numerous brass quintets, religious ensembles, and other various groups.

    In addition, Whitney has enjoyed being a member of the British Brass Band community of Central Ohio. She was a member of the Central Ohio Brass Band for 8 years as both solo cornet and soprano cornet. In 2017 Dr. Davis was a featured soloist where she presented a lecture-recital on the traditions of British Brass Bands. 

    Dr. Davis served as the Trumpet Instructor at Denison University for 5 years where she taught applied trumpet and directed the trumpet ensemble. In addition to collegiate teaching, she has maintained a private trumpet studio for all age groups for the past 12 years. Whitney served as an adjudicator for the Columbus Symphony Orchestra Young Musicians Competition for several years.​

    Dr. Davis obtained her Doctorate of Musical Arts degree from The Ohio State University, a Master’s degree in Performance from Pennsylvania State University, and a Bachelor of Music degree from The Ohio State University. She recently completed research titled "Bb and C Rotary Trumpets in Orchestras of the United States: Perspectives from Professional Orchestral Trumpet Players on the Use, Audition Considerations, and Current Makes/Models." You may also see her research published in an upcoming ITG Journal. 

    Whitney has studied under the tutelage of Timothy Leasure, Dr. Langston Fitzgerald III, George Goad, Velvet Brown, Ginger Turner, and Jan Duga. She has had the honor of being under the baton of conductors such as Crafton Beck, David Becker, Luis Biava, Richard Blatti, Gerardo Edelstein, Dennis Glocke, Dr. William “Ted” McDaniels, Dr. Russel Mikkelson, Alessandro Sicilliani, Jessica Sneeringer, Dr. Robert Ward, Dr. Jon Woods, and Dan Yoder.
